The different and varied programs at Possum Magic are aimed at developing your child, to experiment and create different learning environments.
Our goal is to partner with our parents, to build inquisitive, resilient, balanced, happy and healthy children, who are prepared to begin their schooling years, independent and confident. This creates the most positive start for your child, to ensure they maximise their potential throughout their educational years, into adulthood, to follow their dreams and aspirations, believing they can achieve all they set their hearts and minds on.
Possum Magic believes that play is an essential part of learning. Play helps to foster children’s creativity and build their imaginations. It gives them opportunities to build confidence (and feeling satisfaction from accomplishments), as well as trying new things, expressing feelings, interacting with others, and refining motor skills.
By providing children with every opportunity to thrive, we aim to support our children’s confidence and independence skills, along with many self-help skills that they will need when heading off to school.
At Possum Magic we have a close connection with Red Hill Preschool and we find this advantageous as we are able to see our children continue to develop and thrive right through primary school.
Our School Readiness Program aims at supporting the development of confidence and independence skills, that your child will need prior to starting school, helping to build a solid foundation for later learning.
We are always open to feedback and value our family’s contribution to a successful program.
At Possum Magic we embrace the magic that happens when our Possum children and our older Australians from Carey Gardens Aged Care Home, come together with a common purpose to enjoy each other and life together. Since 1994 this intergenerational blend, has grown in love and purpose and developed long standing friendships.
We encourage all our preschool children to venture into this wonderful world of intergenerational learning and fun. We are looking forward to seeing your child gain a valuable experience and confidence that only comes with interacting with our older Australians in a safe and nurturing space.
At Possum Magic we are proud of the inclusive and diverse child care educator team we encourage to grow and share at Possum Magic. With such dedicated educators immersed and committed to Possum Magic and our children, we are able to share the opportunity of our multi linguistic educators and their language with our children.
Children are so agile in learning new languages and at Possum Magic, we believe in planting linguistic seeds in your children, to open their learning to a different language, as research shows, children expand their minds, when a new language is introduced to them at an early age. All our children are introduced to our multi lingual educators and unknowingly learn new skills to build on thorough their educational life.
Who doesn’t enjoy new experiences and certainly new delicious foods. At Possum Magic we love to develop the chef in all our children! Our talented chef loves nothing better than to cook with your children and introduce them to the different textures and tastes of the many foods we enjoy together at Possum Magic. Your child will learn to mix, stir, cookie cut, colour and taste, as they learn how food comes out of the cupboard or garden and becomes the yummy food they love.
We use these experiences to teach children, that not all children, can eat all foods and this is why they need to be caring of their friends, if they are allergy sufferers. Insight into food and the wonders of different food, is important in Possum Magic, as we teach your child the magic of cooking and the enjoyment that comes from it and best of all... sharing it together!
With the world changing so quickly around us and climate change so important to our world, Possum Magic understands the importance of helping your child recognise the difference they can make, in helping our planet with simple recycling actions, as they contribute together, this does make a significant difference to the planet in which they live.
We teach them about food scraps, hard and soft plastics, battery recycling and shared wastes. Our children learn that sustainable programs are easy to implement and we start this learning journey early in their young lives. They grow into mini environmental champions and understand clearly, how important our planet is to their own happy life on planet Earth.
A world without music, is not one we want our children to grow up in. Music is important in so many aspects of life and encourages positive emotions in many varied ways. Possum believes magic can happen in a child’s life when they immerse themselves in the magic music can produce when creating it, sharing it or simply listening to it. Music is a wonderful calming presence in a busy world.
At Possum Magic we create different learning opportunities for your child, to experience the power of music and the enjoyment it brings. We use different mediums to allow them to create music, to dance to music, to sing with music and listen to music. Possum Magic uses music in different ways and at different times, to create different moods and environments for your child to grow in.
Emma our Rocking Horse Music teacher, has been delivering the magic of music to children for over 25 years. Her experience in sharing music with young children, has inspired the love of music in many young budding musicians, to take into their schooling years and grow their talents.
Dance Kids, is an exciting time of dancing with friends at Possum and discovering new talents of dance and movement. Sue, our Dance Kids teacher, has been recognised with an Order of Australia in 2022, for her outstanding service to the community in dance. Sue, is a qualified dance teacher and has been teaching dance for more than three decades.
The Dance Kids team, inspires the Possum Magic children to move freely and experiment with movement and music and enjoy fun they create both individually and together. Different dance movements enhance a child’s physical play and builds confidence, as they learn to master different movements. The physical activity produces a healthy and more co-ordinated child.
